Unable to destroy the evil runes

I've cured the sick cow in the lower floor, i'm trying to use the fire bow on the 3 green haystacks but all i get is "the haystack glows with an eerie green light"

Should i be using a specific set of arrows with the fire bow? Or what am i doing wrong?

You need both the Fire Bow and Fire Arrows.
